Dessalement
La technologie de dessalement transforme l'eau de mer en eau douce pour pallier la pénurie d'eau mondiale.

Le dessalement est la discipline industrielle et d'ingénierie qui consiste à éliminer les sels et les minéraux dissous dans l'eau de mer ou les eaux souterraines saumâtres pour produire de l'eau douce potable ou d'irrigation. Il approvisionne aujourd'hui plus de 100 millions de personnes dans des régions souffrant de stress hydrique au Moyen-Orient, en Afrique du Nord, sur les côtes asiatiques et, de plus en plus, en Europe du Sud et en Amérique.

Inverser osmose L'osmose inverse (OI) domine actuellement la capacité installée, poussant l'eau d'alimentation saline à haute pression. pression Les membranes composites en polyamide à couches minces, dont la sélectivité, la résistance à l'encrassement et les taux de rejet du bore demeurent des axes de recherche actifs en science des matériaux, sont étudiées. Architectures de processus émergentes - osmose directe, distillation membranaire, déionisation capacitive, etc. graphène à base d'oxyde ou d'aquaporine - ciblent des niches chimiques d'eau d'alimentation ou des configurations hors réseau alimentées par des énergies renouvelables, là où l'économie de l'OI conventionnelle s'effondre.
