Advanced ion exchange membranes and applications thereof

Patent published on the 2025-06-19 in WO under Ref WO2025128460 by WILLIAMS RICHARD KENT [US] (Williams Richard [us], Yi Zheng [us], Graham Chris [us], Lin Keng [tw], Qazi Khushnood [us])

Abstract: Improved performance ion exchange membranes for use in REM, AEM and DMFC fuel cells, buffered fuel cells, hydrolysis, other applications comprise a molecular matrix of homopolymers, di-monomer, heteropolymers, copolymers, or block-polymers of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon compounds combined with (i) skeletal support grid to improve durability, handling, reduce membrane swelling, and sequester dopants and nanoparticles from leakage; (ii) microporous membrane formed using a sacrificial filler proce[...]

Our summary: Advanced ion exchange membranes with improved performance for various applications, incorporating molecular matrix, skeletal support grid, microporous membrane, hetero-ionomeric matrix, permanent fillers, ionic liquid doping, membrane nanocoating, and catalytic nanocoating. Integrated into iBFC power blade and energy bank applications.

Interesting read! But arent there safer alternatives to PFAS? We should be focusing more on those, dont you think?

    2. Hugh

Interesting read, but arent some PFAS beneficial in certain industries? We cant just outright ban them, can we?
