ThrustCurve Rocket Motor Database

ThrustCurve.org is a unique database of model and high-power rocket motors with performance data and thrust curve files. Motors can be searched by size, impulse class and manufacturer.

The data files can be loaded into rocket simulation programs, which makes a flight simulation possible without measuring the motor yourself.

User submitted test data are also included for comparison with certified data.

Tip: rocket designers and hobbyists use it to select a motor and simulate altitude and velocity. Aerospace students and engineers use it as a source of real thrust curves for propulsion and flight dynamics exercises.

Disciplines: Rocketry, Aerospace engineering, Hobby engineering, Education, Propulsion.

Role in the workflow: ThrustCurve is a reference site for model and high-power rocket motors. It holds manufacturer specifications and certified performance data, and it lets users download thrust curves for flight simulators.Role in the workflow: Estes publishes data for its own motors on the product pages of its website. Each page covers a single motor.Role in the workflow: RockSim is rocket design and flight simulation software from Apogee Components. ThrustCurve names it as one of the simulators that can use its thrust curve files.
Motor data content: Search works by attributes, by Match a Rocket and by type. Users can also post their own simulator files, and the site cites well over a thousand data files.Motor data content: The E12-6 page lists total impulse, delay time, burn time, maximum thrust, maximum lift weight and dimensions. The thrust curve appears as an image, with no numeric curve data in the text.Motor data content: Reviews describe a component and engine database that the user can edit. Results include altitude, maximum velocity and time to apogee, with launch conditions such as wind, temperature and pad angle adjustable.
File formats and simulator use: Files are meant for simulators such as RockSim and OpenRocket. A Create Motor Files tool and a Search/Download API are provided.File formats and simulator use: RockSim reads RASP .eng files and its own RockSim Engine format (.rse), which is recommended for version 8 and newer.
Scope of motors: The site covers commercial model and high-power motors from several manufacturers, and it includes user-submitted test data alongside certified data.Scope of motors: The data cover one manufacturer. Estes describes motor sizes of 13, 18, 24 and 29 mm and groups motors into booster, upper stage and plugged types.
Platform and cost model: ThrustCurve lists RockSim from Apogee Components for Windows and macOS. A trial is available and the software is purchased.
