Mechanical Hardware Standards Full Framework

. Mechanical Hardware Standards Full Framework. Design for Manufacturing (DfM)

Besides the usual global ISO 9001 or well know mechanical hardware norms and standards:

  • ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems. Defines the criteria for quality management systems, ensuring that manufacturers of fasteners and small metal components meet customer requirements and consistently improve product quality.
  • ISO 898-1:2013 – Mechanical Properties of Fasteners Made of Carbon Steel and Alloy Steel. Specifies the mechanical properties of fasteners, including screws and bolts, made from carbon and alloy steel, focusing on strength and performance.
  • ISO 4762:2004 – Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screws. Provides specifications for hexagon socket head cap screws, including dimensions, materials, and mechanical properties, ensuring standardization in their design and use.
  • ISO 7040:2009 – Washer – General Purpose Flat Washers. Defines the dimensions and characteristics of general-purpose flat washers used with screws, bolts, and other fasteners, helping ensure compatibility and performances

Find bellow an extensive list of applicable standards for various mechanical parts, such as screws, nuts, bolts, washers, rivets, pins, and other small metal components that are used to assemble, secure, or fix parts together in machines, structures, and other products.

(click on any intermediate node to extend the tree. Mouse-over on the standard's name to have its full title. Click on it to visit one of the suppliers)

Note: this tree is partially automatically generated and is intended for a first global approach. Do double-check the requirements and completeness (exemple of mistake: listing the rare earth metals standard for an MRI is not appropriate. An MRI has no real magnet.)

Refer to the standards official organisations listed in our tool directory.

Interesting read but what about the implications of these standards on small-scale hardware startups? Not everyone can access high-end tech!

      1. Fabrice

High-end tech isnt always necessary for success. Innovation and creativity can outshine any fancy tech!

    3. Fabrice

Perhaps, but oversimplification may risk losing crucial technical details. Its a delicate balance.
