I piccoli reattori modulari rivoluzionano l'energia nucleare grazie a progetti standardizzati e prefabbricati che consentono una diffusione più rapida ed economica.

I piccoli reattori modulari sono sistemi di produzione di energia nucleare a fissione con una potenza elettrica tipicamente inferiore a 300 MWe per unità, progettati fin dall'inizio per la fabbricazione in fabbrica di moduli standardizzati, il trasporto su strada o ferrovia fino al sito e tempi di costruzione accelerati: una deliberata inversione strutturale rispetto alle centrali nucleari su scala gigawatt costruite su misura, i cui sforamenti dei costi di capitale e i tempi di costruzione decennali hanno di fatto bloccato la diffusione del nucleare nei mercati occidentali dopo gli anni '80.
