Annealing

Annealing is a heat treatment process used to alter the physical and sometimes chemical properties of a material, typically metals and glass, to relieve internal stresses and improve ductility. This process involves heating the material to a specific temperature, maintaining that temperature for a designated period, and then allowing it to cool slowly, often in a controlled environment. The result is a refined microstructure that enhances the material’s performance characteristics, making it more suitable for further processing or end-use applications.
