YaCy is a decentralized, peer-to-peer (P2P) search engine framework that operates without a central server or governing authority. Each user installs a local node that crawls and indexes web pages, contributing to a distributed global index or maintaining a private, localized index. The service provides a fully open-source (GPL) alternative to centralized search engines, offering features such as intranet indexing, customizable search portals, and a transparent ranking algorithm.
By utilizing a P2P architecture, it ensures data privacy, eliminates user tracking, and provides a search environment resistant to external censorship or commercial ranking biases.
Nota: we do not list it in the “search” category nor in “resource”, as this is a server-app to install to make your own resource searchable. But it is simple to install, great to use, unique and free.
