A Mechanism of Argon Arc Remelting of LPBF 18Ni300 Steel Surfaces
Published on 2025-04-18 by Xiaoping Zeng, Yehui Sun, Hong Zhang, Zhi Jia, Quan Kang @MDPI
Abstract: This study aims to reduce pores, cracks, and other defects on the surface of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF)-fabricated 18Ni300 steel and improve its surface quality. Remelting was carried out on the surface with an argon arc as the heat source. Then, the surface layer was characterized using SEM, EDS, XRD, EBSD, and hardness testing. The results showed the following: When the pulse current I increased from 16 A to 20 A, the surface hardness of LPBF 18Ni300 increased due to a decrease in defects [...]
Our summary: This study investigates the mechanism of argon arc remelting on the surfaces of LPBF 18Ni300 steel to improve surface quality and hardness. Results show that increasing pulse current enhances surface hardness by reducing defects and increasing martensite phase, while excessive current can introduce new defects and decrease hardness. Factors affecting hardness include pore weakening, phase transformation strengthening, grain refinement strengthening, and texture strengthening.

Microstructure Evolution During Preparation of Semi-Solid Billet for 7075 Aluminum Alloy by EASSIT Process
Published on 2025-04-17 by Yanghu Hu, Ming Chang, Shuqin Fan, Boyang Liu, Yongfei Wang, Shuangjiang Li, Chao Zhang, Peng Zhang, Shengdun Zhao @MDPI
Abstract: The 7075 aluminum alloy semi-solid billet is prepared using the extrusion alloy semi-solid isothermal treatment (EASSIT) process. These findings indicate that as the isothermal time increases, there is a noticeable increase in both the average grain size (AGS) and shape factor (SF). The relationship between the AGS, SF, and isothermal temperature is complex due to the influence of grain refinement mechanisms. The HV0.2 of isothermal samples decreased with the increase in isothermal temperature, [...]
Our summary: The study investigates the microstructure evolution of 7075 aluminum alloy semi-solid billet prepared by the EASSIT process. Increasing isothermal time leads to larger average grain size and shape factor. Cu and Si segregation affects the coarsening behavior at high temperatures.

Abstract: With the development of high-speed and high-temperature equipment, thermal barrier materials are facing increasingly harsh service environments. The addition of YAG to Y2Hf2O7 has been proposed in order to improve its long-term high-temperature performance. In this work, Y2Hf2O7/Y3Al5O12 composite powders were synthesized by combustion synthesis with urea, glycine, EDTA, citric acid, and glucose as fuels, while hafnium tetrachloride, yttrium nitrate hexahydrate, and aluminum nitrate nonahydrate [...]
Our summary: Y2Hf2O7/Y3Al5O12 composites prepared with various fuels were analyzed for their morphology, phase composition, and thermal behavior. The addition of YAG to Y2Hf2O7 improved its high-temperature performance. Urea was found to be the most suitable fuel for the synthesis process, resulting in uniform distribution of grains and lower activation energies.

Published on 2025-04-13 by Dariusz Bochenek, Dagmara Brzezi?ska, Przemys?aw Niemiec, Maciej Zubko, Katarzyna Osi?ska @MDPI
Abstract: In this work, a multicomponent PZT-type material doped with manganese Mn, antimony Sb, samarium Sm, and tungsten W was fabricated using classical powder technology. Sintering of the ceramic samples was performed by the free sintering method (pressureless sintering). The influence of samarium on the properties of PZT was analyzed using a variable amount of samarium Sm3+ (from 0.8 to 1.2 wt.%) and tungsten W6+ (from 1.4 to 1.2 wt.%) admixture compared to the Pb(Zr0.49Ti0.51)0.963Mn0.021Sb0.016O3 +[...]
Our summary: Multicomponent PZT-type material doped with samarium, manganese, antimony, and tungsten was fabricated using classical powder technology. Sintering done by pressureless method. Influence of samarium on properties analyzed with XRD, FE-SEM, P-E hysteresis, and dielectric studies showing high permittivity and low dielectric loss factor values. Homogeneous structure achieved with equal content of samarium and tungsten admixtures.

Impact of Heat Treatment Parameters on the Plastic Properties of 6061 Aluminum Alloy
Published on 2025-04-09 by Xiangdong Jia, Zhenyu Fan, Zhan Luo, Gang Hu, Hongyao Zhang @MDPI
Abstract: The 6061 aluminum alloy is extensively utilized in the production of aircraft components, valve parts, and maritime equipment, owing to its exceptional corrosion resistance, weldability, machinability, and anodic oxidation performance. This study investigates the effects of different heat treatment parameters on the mechanical properties of 6061 aluminum alloy. A series of orthogonal experiments were conducted, including quasi-static tensile tests using a QJBV212F-300KN universal testing machine[...]
Our summary: This study explores the impact of different heat treatment parameters on the plastic properties of 6061 aluminum alloy through orthogonal experiments and microstructural characterization. Results show improved plasticity within a specific temperature range, but significant grain coarsening at higher temperatures leading to increased brittleness. The elongation of the alloy also varies with aging time, and a constitutive model was developed to predict flow stress accurately under different heat treatment conditions.
