Therapeutic Potential of Cannabidiol Cyclodextrin Complex in Polymeric Micelle and Tetrahydrocurcumin Cyclodextrin Complex Loaded in Hydrogel to Treat Lymphedema

Published on 2025-04-06 by Waritorn Srakhao, Titpawan Nakpheng, Mohd Cairul Iqbal Mohd Amin, Teerapol Srichana @MDPI

Abstract: Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) have demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity as well as generating new lymph vessels. We present the formulations and evaluations of CBD and THC loaded in hydrogels for the treatment of lymphedema to promote angiogenesis of lymph vessels and an anti-inflammatory response. Six CBD-THC hydrogel formulations were prepared and evaluated. The hydrodynamic particle sizes were 302.0–545.1 nm and the zeta potentials were from −58[...]

Application of Polysaccharides in Hydrogel Biomaterials

Published on 2025-04-04 by Piotr Szatkowski, Zuzanna Flis, Anna Ptak, Edyta Molik @MDPI

Abstract: Natural compounds incorporated into hydrogel materials have been widely used to support wound healing due to their numerous properties. The aim of this research was to produce hydrogel biomaterials with the addition of adjuvants, such as sodium alginate and polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) with the addition of ethylene ginger extract (EEI). A thermogravimetric (TG) study, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), water absorption testing and microscopic an[...]

Our summary: Research on hydrogel biomaterials with natural compounds and adjuvants to support wound healing. Evaluation of properties through various analytical techniques. 4%Alg/12%PEGDA hydrogel showed best water absorption and stress dissipation. 4%Alg/12%PEGDA/12%EEI hydrogel exhibited highest hydrophilic properties and ionic conductivity. Addition of PEGDA and EEI increased acidity, potentially beneficial for wound management.

Tracking the Effect of Phosvitin (PV) Concentration on the Skin Permeation of Somatotropin (STH) from Semi-Solid Hydrogel Formulations

Published on 2025-04-04 by Wioletta Siemiradzka @MDPI

Abstract: Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) is utilized in pediatric patients with short stature for a variety of indications, including those in which the primary growth defect is not related to growth hormone deficiency (GHD). However, due to the instability of the hormone in the gastrointestinal tract and its short half-life, an alternative route of administration is being sought, which may be the skin. One strategy to extend the half-life of proteins involves the use of biodegradable polymeric m[...]

Adaptability Evaluation of High-Density Kill Fluid for Ultra-Deep and Ultra-High Temperature Well Testing in Tarim Oilfield

Published on 2025-04-02 by Junyan Liu, Lili Li, Shuang Liu, Yan Ye, Sihan Cheng, Kun Wang, Lang Wang, Zhenjiang Wu, Jun Wu @MDPI

Abstract: To address the insufficient long-term stability of kill fluids in ultra-deep, ultra-high-temperature wells in the Tarim Oilfield, this study systematically evaluates the adaptability of high-density kill fluids under high-temperature and prolonged static aging conditions, with a focus on identifying dominant settling mechanisms. The correlation between the microstructure and macroscopic properties of kill fluids was elucidated through particle size distribution analysis, scanning electron micros[...]

Our summary: To evaluate high-density kill fluids for ultra-deep, ultra-high-temperature well testing in Tarim Oilfield, this study assesses their adaptability under extreme conditions. Through various analyses, settling mechanisms are identified, and a grading criterion for settling stability is established. Key findings show that low-density kill fluids maintain stability, while high-density systems experience severe particle aggregation, providing valuable insights for optimizing formulations and ensuring safe operations in ultra-high-temperature wells.

High-Quality Preparation of Energy-Containing Microspheres with Cross-Scale Particle Size

Published on 2025-03-31 by Jiang Liu, Hairui Bian, Guoqiang Yu, Jiachao Zhang, Yaozheng Wang, Dang Ding, Ning Sang, Fangsheng Huang @MDPI

Abstract: Microfluidic granulation technology enables high-quality production of energy-containing microspheres, significantly enhancing both performance and safety. Although microfluidic methods allow control over microsphere particle size, the adjustment range remains limited; low yield and process discontinuity also restrict broader application in the synthesis of energy-containing materials. This paper presents a microfluidic granulation system for energy-containing materials utilizing pulsed pneumati[...]
