CSEM SA (Centre Suisse d’Electronique et de Microtechnique) is a private, non-profit Swiss research and technology organization founded in 1984 through the merger of three pioneering microtechnology institutes in Neuchâtel. With over 550 specialists, CSEM functions as an applied research, engineering, and technology transfer organization connecting academic science with industrial manufacturing.
CSEM is globally recognized for its expertise in structural design, kinematics, and compliant mechanisms. The organization pioneered friction-free flexure blade guiding systems, silicon-based micro-mechanisms (FlexMEMS), and topological design optimization for metal additive manufacturing. Its mechanism solutions are embedded in scientific instrumentation, mechanical horology, space satellites (in cooperation with ESA and NASA), and medical devices.
