CST Composites (originally established in 1995 as ‘Composite Spars and Tubes’) is an Australian manufacturer specializing in advanced filament wound and pultruded composite tubing, profiles, and components. The company operates two facilities in Sydney, Australia, encompassing over 3,000 square meters of manufacturing floor space equipped with custom-engineered production machinery and testing laboratories.

The company operates four automated filament winding machines and three pultrusion lines, delivering an annual processing capacity exceeding 100 tonnes of composite material. CST Composites also produces proprietary towpregs and manufactures filament-wound composite pressure vessels for green hydrogen and compressed gas containment through its international joint venture, CST Optimum.

CST Composites provides automated composite manufacturing, custom profile fabrication, and precision secondary processing services:

  • Filament Winding: Automated winding from 0° (unidirectional) to 90° hoop angles, with custom fibre placement paths and variable wall thicknesses for cylindrical, tapered, and large-diameter composite tubes.
  • Pultrusion: Continuous pultruded carbon fibre and fiberglass profiles, structural sections, rods, and custom cross-sections.
  • Towpreg Manufacturing: In-house production of carbon fibre, fibreglass, and aramid towpregs utilizing custom resin formulation and closed-loop feedback impregnation equipment.
  • Pressure Vessels: Filament-wound Type 4 and Type 5 composite pressure vessels for compressed natural gas, hydrogen storage, and transportation applications via CST Optimum.
  • CNC Machining & Tooling: In-house tooling and prototyping utilizing an Okuma CNC lathe, 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills, and a 6-metre Shenyang lathe.
  • Precision Finishing: Centerless grinding of composite tubing achieving outer diameter tolerances within ±150 microns (0.05 mm).
  • Metrology & Inspection: Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) inspection using a Renishaw PH10M touch probe system with 5-micron resolution per cubic metre.
  • Assembly & Bonding: Serial bonding of aluminium and composite end-fittings, hubs, and sleeves, plus in-laminate embedded identification labelling.
