Abstract: A coordinated control for the volt-var optimization (VVO) problem is presented using load tap changer transformers, voltage regulators, and capacitor banks with the integration of a PV-based microgrid. The harmony search (HS) algorithm, which is a metaheuristic-based optimization algorithm, was used to determine global optimum settings of related devices to operate efficiently under changing conditions. Our summary: Coordinated control for VVO using HS algorithm to optimize settings of devices, reduce power losses, peak power demands, and voltage variations in distribution circuit, mixed integer nonlinear problem with discrete and continuous variables, verified using IEEE 13-node test circuit, significant reduction in active power loss, peak power demand, and voltage fluctuation.

Abstract: Hybrid energy storage systems (HESSs) are essential for adopting sustainable energy sources. HESSs combine complementary storage technologies, such as batteries and supercapacitors, to optimize efficiency, grid stability, and demand management. Our summary: Sustainable energy sources require efficient hybrid energy storage systems. This work introduces a semi-active HESS with an adaptive LQG controller that outperforms traditional PI and LQG controllers. The proposed system optimizes grid stability by efficiently managing high and low-frequency components of battery power. Experimentally validated control strategy ensures system adaptability to changing operating conditions.
