Electrical Components Sdn Bhd, operating under the brand name ELCO, was founded in 1978 and is a pioneer in the Malaysian power capacitor manufacturing industry. Originally developed from research supported by SIRIM and upgraded with European dry-type metallised polypropylene film technology, the company has grown into a major domestic and regional producer of AC capacitors.

Headquartered in Subang Jaya, Selangor, ELCO is recognized as Malaysia’s primary manufacturer of aluminium-cased cylindrical 3-phase low voltage power capacitors, commanding a significant market share in the power factor correction (PFC) sector. The company exports extensively across ASEAN and Greater Asia and regularly participates in major industrial energy exhibitions such as Hannover Messe and Electric & Power Indonesia.

ELCO designs and manufactures high-performance capacitors and inductive detuned reactors engineered to IEC standards (such as IEC 60831 and IEC 60439) for power factor correction, harmonic filtering, and motor/lighting run operations:

  • Low Voltage 3-Phase Power Capacitors: Cylindrical 700/705 Series (440V to 525V heavy duty) and 200/205 Series, as well as 134/135 Series prismatic (box type) dry-type metallised polypropylene film capacitors featuring self-healing properties and overpressure tear-off disconnection mechanisms.
  • Detuned Filter Reactors: High-linearity inductive reactors (p = 5.67%, 7%, and 14%) paired with capacitor banks to mitigate harmonic resonance in systems containing variable frequency drives (VFDs) and non-linear loads.
  • Motor & Lighting Capacitors: Metallised film capacitors specifically sized for lighting ballast PFC and AC motor run/start configurations.
  • Ancillary PFC Hardware: Capacitor duty contactors, digital power factor regulator controllers (e.g., PFR5 series), and static var generator (SVG / ASVG) systems.
