Performance Evaluation of a Flexible Power Point Tracking Strategy for Extending the Operational Lifetime of Solar Battery Banks

Abstract: Standalone photovoltaic systems play an important role in providing reliable renewable energy in remote areas. These systems depend heavily on battery energy storage, especially lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are known for their safety and long cycle life. However, battery degradation remains a major challenge, as high charging currents, temperature variations, and wide state-of-charge fluctuations introduce electro-thermal stress that reduces the useful lifetime of the storage system. Our summary: This paper presents a Flexible Power Point Tracking strategy to reduce battery stress and extend the lifetime of lithium iron phosphate batteries in standalone photovoltaic systems. A fuzzy-logic-based controller is implemented to stabilize current peaks, temperature, and state-of-charge variations. Results indicate a 7% improvement in battery lifetime compared to traditional methods.
