The introduction of the China Compulsory Certificate mark was a significant development in China’s regulation, aligning it more closely with international practices as part of its commitments upon joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001. Before the CCC, foreign and domestic products were often subject to different standards and certification bodies, creating trade barriers and inconsistencies. The CCIB mark was primarily for import/export commodity inspection, while the CCEE “Great Wall” mark was for electrical product safety. The consolidation into the CCC system aimed to create a level playing field. The new system is managed by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA). The transition period allowed manufacturers to apply for the new mark, and from August 1, 2003, the old marks were no longer valid. The CCC mark itself is a distinct logo that must be physically applied to the product, indicating it has undergone the required testing and inspection and meets Chinese safety standards.
