DMAIC is a data-driven improvement cycle used for improving, optimizing, and stabilizing business processes. The 두문자어 stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. The DMAIC methodology provides a structured, five-phase framework for process improvement. The ‘Improve’ phase is where potential solutions are developed, tested, and implemented to address the identified root causes. Techniques like Design of Experiments (DOE) are often used here. Finally, the ‘Control’ phase aims to sustain the gains achieved. This involves implementing monitoring systems, updating standard operating procedures, and creating response plans to ensure the process remains at its improved performance level. This cyclical approach is a refinement of earlier quality improvement cycles like the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle.
